International Competitive Bidding| National Competitive Bidding| Shopping Community Participation | Additional Resources Worldwide the average annual lending commitments from IBRD and IDA is about US$ 22 billion a year in total project investments. Recipient countries use these funds to purchase goods and equipment, construct civil works, and obtain consultant services needed for projects. Each project can involve many separate contracts and business opportunities for suppliers of goods, contractors of civil and other works, and consultants worldwide. Some 30,000 contracts are awarded each year to private firms.[70 percent are for goods and equipment, 20 percent for civil works and 10 percent for consultants services].
Contracts under World Bank-financed projects can range in size from several hundred million dollars (for major infrastructure or industrial plants) to a few thousand dollars (for supplies of small quantities of goods and services). Large and small companies can benefit from the business generated by the Bank Group's lending. Contracts are awarded, with few exceptions, through competitive procedures detailed in the Bank's Procurement Guidelines following Standard Bidding Documents [SBDs] compiled by The World Bank. These documents are used by all projects financed by the Bank by adding few clauses which are relevant to the country where the works or goods are to be supplied. In the case of India these documents have been examined by Government of India, Ministry of Finance for adding few clauses which are pertinent to India, to suit the Indian conditions. These documents which have been cleared with the World Bank for use in all the projects which are being implemented in India are given below for information of all borrowers, contractors, suppliers and consultants.        INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE BIDDING [ICB] ICB Works  ICB Goods  NATIONAL COMPETITIVE BIDDING [NCB] NCB Works NCB: Civil Works (for contracts valued less than Rs. 3 million each) (1086kb pdf) NCB: Civil Works - Lumpsum Contract (1325kb pdf) Procurement of Very Small Works Under National Competitive Bidding (395kb pdf)
