India: Rural Roads Project

WASHINGTON, September 23, 2004 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board:


LOAN AMOUNT:
US$99.5 million

TERMS: Grace period = 5 years, Maturity = 20 years

CREDIT AMOUNT: US$300 million
TERMS: Grace period = 10 years, Maturity = 35 years

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project aims to achieve broader and more sustainable access to markets and social services for the rural population. This will be achieved through construction and upgrading of about 8,800 km of rural roads, providing technical assistance and goods to state and local government to enhance maintenance management, and enhancing program management of the project.
