Improving India's Investment Climate : Roundtable discussion - April 11, 2005

A Roundtable on ‘Improving India’s Investment Climate’  was organized by the World Bank and the IFC (International Finance Corporation) in Delhi on April 11, 2005. The Roundtable brought  together senior policy makers and business leaders to discuss and debate the findings of two recent World Bank Group reports: The India Investment Climate Assessment 2004, and Doing Business Report 2005.

A panel of eminent experts including Bibek Debroy, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies;  Rajiv Kumar, Chief Economist, CII; Ila Patnaik, Economics Editor, Indian Express and  V. K. Ladia, Chairman, Indian Cotton Mills Federation deliberated on the findings of the Reports, focussing particularly on state-level performance.
 
The Roundtable provided a forum to discuss and debate the key constraints and challenges facing India’s private sector, review recent progress made in addressing these constraints, exchange ideas on how best to overcome these problems, and explore ways in which the World Bank Group could partner with Government and business to create a more investor-friendly environment.
