IDM 2004 Winners

The IDM 2004 competition invited proposals for improving the access and quality of rural services. About 1500 proposals were received from all over the country. 

 

Twenty winners were announced. Of these, five were on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, four on Rural Education, seven on Rural Health, two on Rural Electricity and two on Rural Finance:

Rural Water Supply and Sanitation

The five organisations that received grants under ‘Improving Water Supply and Sanitation – Access and Quality’ are:

  1. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad for their project on ‘Development of Dew Harvesting System as Supplementary Source of Water in Coastal Villages of Kutch District, Gujarat.
  2. Rural Reconstruction Organisation (RRO) for their project on ‘Drinking Water Supply to Bhalughara and Haribeda Through Leakproof and Networking of Water Bodies’ in Keonjhar District, Orissa.
  3. Raseshwar Foundation for their project on ‘Replacing Shanties into Permanent Housing in USD 286 and Providing Economic Stability’ in Mat Block, Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh.
  4. Gandhigram Trust for their project on ‘Developing Sensitivity Towards Managing Drinking water Supply in Rural Areas’ in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu.
  5. Planet Kerala for their project on ‘Solar Distillation for Potable Water and Ground Water Quality Augmentation through Rainwater Harvesting in Coastal Areas’ in Calicut, Kerala

Rural Education

The four organisations that received grants under ‘Improving Education – Access and Quality’ are:

  1. Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha for their project on ‘Enhancing Learning for Sustainable Livelihoods and Cultural Advancement at the Grass Root Level’ in Maval Block, Pune, Maharashtra
  2. JAGRAN for their project on ‘Participatory Theatre for Rural Communication and Education’ in Hathin, Faridabad District, Haryana
  3. Byrraju Foundation for their project on ‘Improving School Education and Health in Rural areas using Virtual Access Network (i-SHRAVAN)’ in West Godhavari District, Andhra Pradesh
  4. SUDRAK for their project on ‘Aajeevika Bureau’ in South Rajasthan, Rajasthan

Rural Health

The seven organisations that received grants under ‘Improving Health – Access and Quality’ are:

  1. Bombay Veterinary College for their project on ‘Improving Access-Quality of Animal Health Services through Comprehensive Village Herd Health Management Programmes’ in Maharastra and Gujarat
  2. SADHANA for their project on ‘Use of Larvivorous Fish Variety for Control of Malaria with Community Participation’ in Badamba Block, Cuttack District, Orissa
  3. Centre for North Eastern Studies and Policy Research for their Project on ‘A Ship of Hope in a Valley of Floods’ in Assam
  4. eHealth Foundation for their project on ‘Rural e Arogya Project’ in Sirsa District, Haryana
  5. LOKSHAKTI for their project on ‘Assured and Qualitative Rural Healthcare through Community Level Marketing of Primary Health Care Services’ in Thakur Mandal, Mayurbhanj District, Orissa
  6. Centre for Empowerment and Development of Women for their project on ‘Adolescent Girls as Promoters of Basics in Feminine Hygiene, Health, and Nutrition’ in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh
  7. Arumbugal Trust for their Project on ‘Promotion of Health and Income of Rural Women and Adolescent by Promoting Sanitary Napkins’ in Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu

Rural Electricity

The two organisations that received grants under ‘Improving Electricity – Access and Quality’ are:

  1. The Energy Resources Institute for their project on ‘Sustainable Biomass Based Model for Rural Electrification’ in Jemara Village, Bilaspur District, Chattisgarh
  2. Navreet Energy Research and Information for their project on ‘Evolving Agri-Gas from Crop Residues for Rural Energy-Electricity in Eco-Friendly Decentralised Mode’ in 8km Chak village, Hanumanghar District, Rajasthan

Rural Finance

The two organisations that received grants under ‘Improving Finance – Access and Quality’ are:

  1. Centre for Environment Education for their project on ‘Eco Enterprise for Sustainable Livelihoods – A Financing Mechanism for Ecologically Fragile Region’s in Jasdan Taluk, Gujarat
  2. Social Action for Social Development for their project on ‘Food Basket Credit Line to Fight Hunger in Chronically Drought Affected Areas’ in Mahabub Nagar District, Telungana Region, Andhra Pradesh
