India: Punjab Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project

WASHINGTON, December 14, 2006 - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

 

IDA CREDIT: US$154 million

TERMS: Grace period = 10 year; Maturity = 35 years

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The loan will assist the Government of Punjab in achieving full coverage for water supply with at least basic service level of 40 liters per capita per day in some 3000 villages. It will improve operational performance of the existing water supply schemes in another 1600 villages and implement environmental sanitation schemes in some 1100 villages.  The project will also support capacity building of the rural local governments and user communities in developing and managing rural water and sanitation facilities and services.
