The World Bank recently issued a report on “India Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS): Bridging the Gap between Infrastructure and Service”. The report argues that while India is making good progress in developing WSS infrastructure, it is important to improve the services.
In this context, the Ministry of Urban Development, with assistance from the World Bank, organized an interactive National Workshop on “Improving Service Delivery in Urban Water, Sanitation and Sewerage” in New Delhi on February 1-2, 2007.
At the workshop, senior government officials from the Ministry of Urban Development, Municipal Corporations, the Planning Commission, members of civil society, the private sector and international agencies discussed and analysed the key issues and challenges in the area of Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) services faced by states, cities and urban local bodies and how these can be addressed to improve the reliability, sustainability and affordability of WSS service delivery. >>>>>Read Agenda
